Jerry Kanhai was born on the 28th of May 1963 in Paramaribo (Surinam in South- America) and spent all his growing years there. He grew up with his parents Harrypersad Kanhai and Willy Krishnakumari Hirasing, 3 brothers and 4 sisters and is the youngest boy in the family.

After finishing high-school, Jerry came to the Netherlands (Europe) in 1983 to study Organic Chemistry and graduated from the University of Leiden in 1987.

His work experiences include Policy Adviser and Project Manager in different government programs, managed by an agency of the Ministry of Economic Affairs.

Jerry’s passion for music started at a young age, listening to Indian songs (Geets and Ghazals) and watching Bollywood movies. He then made singing his hobby, which eventually developed into recording his first CD in 2004, Aap ki Khatir (Just for you!), comprising old Indian songs and Ghazals.

In 2009, he released a second CD called, 2 Ways, a mixture of old and modern Indian songs which was donated to a club helping underprivileged children.

Jerry’s 2010 and latest release, ‘Timeless...Kal Ki Yaadein’, comprises traditional Indian songs dedicated mainly to the younger Hindustani generation, to carry on remembering their grassroots. The CD was donated to a foundation which is committed to the education of children in deprived areas.

Jerry performs regularly in The Netherlands as a guest-vocalist with several local musicians and artists from Holland, Surinam and India.

In 1990 he married Firosa Kalloe and they have two sons, Arshaad and Rizvaan. They live in Zoetermeer in the Netherlands.
